Equipment and technology
The equipment SGTS has available, and a plain-language explanation of the survey technology and software workflows behind typical deliverables.
Equipment is selected for each assignment rather than the other way round. The deciding factors are the purpose of the survey, the tolerances required, the site conditions and the deliverables. A congested urban street, an open agricultural plot and a live industrial plant can each call for a different instrument mix.
Instruments are checked before use and routine field checks are carried out during work, as described in our quality and safety approach. Where specific equipment is required by a client specification, this is confirmed in the scope of work before fieldwork begins.
Only equipment that SGTS has confirmed as available is listed on this page. Manufacturer, model and specification details are added as they are verified.
Equipment available
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) System
Non-destructive subsurface investigation. The system transmits electromagnetic pulses and records reflections from changes in material properties, which are processed into radargrams and interpreted to indicate likely buried features, layer interfaces and anomalies. Results depend on ground and material conditions, target characteristics and system configuration.
Survey technology and software
Survey instruments
Total stations measure angles and distances; GNSS receivers determine positions from satellite signals; digital levels transfer heights precisely. The instrument mix for a project is chosen for the site and tolerances and confirmed in the scope.
Subsurface investigation
Ground penetrating radar records reflections of electromagnetic pulses from changes in material properties. Results depend on ground conditions, target characteristics and system configuration.
Remote sensing and LiDAR
Laser scanning and imagery-based methods capture dense surface data for corridors and large areas. Where these methods are relevant, the capture platform is confirmed per project.
Processing and CAD
Survey reduction software is used for computations and adjustments, and CAD software for drawings, sections and setting-out schedules in DWG/DXF and PDF.
GIS and data management
GIS software and spatial databases structure data in defined coordinate reference systems, with exchange formats such as shapefile, GeoJSON, GeoPackage and geodatabase.
